Less than a few miles from its destination, yet another tractor-trailer filled with tons of trash headed for Seneca Meadows landfill dumped its load—this time on Route 414, near the Strong Road interesction, and this time hitting a passenger vehicle a well.
Emergency vehicles and firefighters were on the scene to extricate the driver, and the NYSDEC later arrived on site to clean up the mess while Route 414 was shut down.
This incident occurred amid ongoing concerns about the landfill's environmental impact.
In March 2024, a lawsuit was filed alleging that the landfill's emissions violate New Yorkers' constitutional right to a healthy environment. The suit claimed that both the landfill's operations and the Department of Environmental Conservation's permitting practices were detrimental to local communities.
