Join the Movement

Government and regulatory agencies are so understaffed and heavily influenced by the corporations they regulate that they are virtually useless to the people whom they are supposed to serve. So any meaningful and lasting change must come from people like you—those who care deeply about protecting our environment and the well-being of our communities.

By joining the movement, you’ll amplify the fight against the harmful effects of mega-landfills.

Why Your Voice Matters

Petitions are a powerful tool for change. When enough voices unite behind a cause, decision-makers are forced to listen. By signing this petition, not only will you be fighting a toxic health threat, but you will be helping stop the monstrous disgrace of burying mass tonnages of recyclables in some of America’s best farmland (thus destroying both the materials buried as well as the land). By signing, you’re not just adding your name—you’re joining a growing community of advocates demanding and end to

  • Pernicious targeting of small towns (as sacrifice zones) for mega-trash imports
  • Foul smelling toxic air emissions, contaminated water, & disrupted ecosystems
  • Corporate greed winning out over citizen welfare and local self-determination

U.S. and World-wide

While often perceived as a local concern, landfill dangers transcend borders of all countries, and no one should have to live with them, especially when they’re magnified by sheer virtue of landfill size.

Here in the U.S., according to the CDC, 10% of women already carry mercury concentrations high enough for fetal damage, asthma and allergy prevalence among children has doubled in the past 25 years, air pollution claims 70,000 lives a year, and PFAS (“forever chemicals”) can now be found in the blood of 97% of our bodies. We are a toxic time-bomb that is already exploding. We don’t need 15 more years of VOCs and HAPs—chemicals proven to have a wide range of toxicological effects that are emitted in staggering tonnages per year from Seneca Meadows mega-landfill (shown)—added to our current toxic load burden.

Take the First Step—Sign our Petition to Stop Seneca Meadows and Other Mega-Landfill Expansions in New York State and Beyond

Landfilling is not just a waste problem—it's a hidden subsidy that we’re all paying for. While the waste industry rakes in massive profits, the true cost of landfilling is dumped directly onto the public: polluted air, contaminated water, and lost resources that could be reused or recycled. We need to stop subsidizing the waste industry's harmful practices and start investing in smarter, more sustainable alternatives. (See similar sign-on letter by 100s to Governor Kathy Hochul here.)

All “global citizens” are asked to sign, but especially NY State residents because of profound and imminent statewide implications.

I support the closure of Seneca Meadows landfill at the end of 2025 (when its current permit expires). I also believe NYS must prioritize reduction, reuse, and recycling over renewing expired permits for mega landfills, and eventually extend this policy to all landfills.
